JEHOVAH EZER

First, a little background.   The various “names” of God give us some insight into His attributes, and provisions.   Scripture does not specifically refer to God as “Jehovah Ezer”,  however, the Hebrew writers’ translation describes this attribute as “the Lord (is) my Helper”.  Example:  Hebrews 13:6  You may do more research on your own.

Although God did not CAUSE this pandemic,  He certainly allowed it.  It practically shut down “business as usual” all over the world with no country  being immune. In 1776, Thomas Paine wrote “These are the times that try men’s souls…”. History no doubt will record 2020 as being similar because we can not make it through this without help from the Lord.

Many are in a state of panic because of uncertain reverberations (out of our control) affecting every aspect of life in negative, uncertain ways----emotional, psychological/mental, financial, health, sense of wellbeing, and, “yes” even our faith.  It is understandable because we have to acknowledge that we are still human and may even wonder if God is paying attention or cares what we are going through. Of course He does!  (III John 1:2/ Jeremiah 29:11)  We cannot, however, afford to remain in that frame of mind and let  circumstances undermine our faith.  Even though it may look and feel like our lives are falling apart, II Corinthians 5:7 admonishes us to “walk by faith and not by sight”.  Circumstances may change (as they certainly have), but the promises and attributes of our faithful God will NEVER change.  (Malachi 3:6a,b) (Hebrews 13:8)

What do we do then as we wait (sometimes not so patiently) on God to help us?    We must  prayerfully seek the wisdom/will of God as to what path He would have us to pursue to access His provisions (Proverbs 3:5,6), do those things that are within our ability to help ourselves, resist isolating ourselves from others of faith (which can allow the spirit of depression to seep in), DO avoid negative people, then feed/fortify our faith with scriptures from  His Word (Matthew 6:33) that build/sustain our faith.

None of this is easy, and are tests of our faith & confidence in God to be “Jehovah Ezer”, The Lord our Helper.  (Isaiah 50:7)

Remember Whose you are, feed your faith,  and trust God (Isaiah 33:6) to help you.  Also, ask Him to help you to learn the lesson that He is trying to teach you in this season.  (Psalm 119:33-37)  Here are a few other scriptures on which to meditate and stand as you wait on God, His timing and provision.  You really can trust God!

  • Exodus 14:b,c

  • Ephesians 6:13, 14a

  • Numbers 23:19

  • Psalm 37:25b,c

  • Mark 9:23

Blessings.
