(Another) Lesson From Hummingbirds
Lesson #2: The hummingbird gets its name from the fact that it’s wings move so fast that they create a humming sound. They almost sound like a very large bumble bee to me. If you watch a hummingbird approaching a flower or feeder, you may notice that although they can fly very fast, they can also stop mid-flight, and even fly backward to avoid danger/death. It is an amazing maneuver to watch. They only weigh as much as a nickel and are fragile, making them very vigilant in observing their surroundings on the lookout for danger or predators.
APPLICATION: Two scriptures come to mind. The first is Matthew 26:41a “Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation.” The second is Exodus 14:13b,c ”Do not be afraid. Stand still and see the salvation of the Lord, which He will accomplish for you today…” (Both NKJV) We must be as watchful as a hummingbird, and depend on the leading of the Holy Spirit because He knows all. When we are approaching a situation, circumstance, or even a person who is dangerous to our relationship with God and our spiritual walk, then we must be as quick and wise as a hummingbird to stop, stand still, or back away. The Holy Spirit will lead us and guide us into all truth if only we choose to watch, pray, and obey.
Blessings!
