Pray Without Ceasing

Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.                                                                Thessalonians 5:16-18, NKJV

"Without ceasing" literally means without stopping or continualy. however, it is not possible to pray 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  We would never get anything done.  So what could that mean?  As I read this scripture, the lyrics to "Lord, Give Me A Praying Spirit" written by  *Elbernita (Twinkie) Clark, came to mind.

I am intentional in mading it a pratice to pray when someone comes to mind seemingly out of the blue.  I usually find out later that this indivdual was actually going through something during that time or about to  face something difficult. To me, that is what having praying spirit means.  It means being in tune with the Holy Spirit to pray when He drops someone into my spirit or mind.  One does not need to know the circumstances in order to intercede on someone else's behalf because the Holy Spirit already knows the need.

Richard DeHaan, a Daily Bread writer, put it this way.  "When a problem confronts us, when we're reminded of a friend in distress, or when we're made aware of some other need, we can breathe a prayer to God on the spot."

Blessings.
