COMING CLEAN!!

If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.  1 John 1:9 (NKJV)

In Nehemiah 1, Israel was in exile and Nehemiah served as butler to the King of Persia.  He had an opportunity to inquire of a visitor about the wellbeing of his fellow Jews who had escaped exile.  He was heartbroken to learn that the wall around Jerusalem was in disrepair with the gate to the city was burned making them vulnerable to attack by enemies.

He immediately turned to fasting and praying.  He first "came clean" to God by confessing (Nehemiah 1:6-7) that both he and his father's house had sinned by being unfaithful to God.  Confession is required for us to be forgiven and cleansed as well.  1 John 1:10 reads If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us.

Nehemiah did not stop there.   Then he put God in *remembrance of His promise to redeem the Jews if they returned to Him by being faithful.  Let's remember this lesson and apply it in our own lives.

Blessings.
