Valentines Day Revisited

We love each other because He loved us first.

There is no way that anyone did not realize that Valentines Day was this week.  Even if you did not observe it by doing something special for someone in your life, at the very least, you knew!

The story behind its origin is not something on which historians agree.
I always heard that the name came from a patron saint, St. Valentine, but from there, "the plot thickens" because History.com says that there were two men by that name.  Some believe that February 14th was chosen because that is the day that one of them died.  Who knows?  Still other historians say that Valentines Day originated from a pagan fertility festival where animals were killed and women were smacked with animal hides believed to make them fertile.  (Good grief, Charlie Brown!)

Do you know who benefited the most & were the happiest of all on Valentines Day?  The confectioners (who make the candy), Hallmark, florists, jewelers, restauranteers, and wineries. Men typicaly spend more money than women. This day is so commercialized that it has been estimated that in 2020,  American households spent $27.6 million on gifts for their dogs and $17.1 million on gifts for cats.  Just WOW!

There are those who do not participate in doing something extraordinary on that one day, and believe that love/appreciation to those whom you love should be shown everyday.  True, but if you were the recipient of someone demonstrating their genuine love for you in a big way, I hope that it was nice, that you appreciated what they did,  and that you reciprocated.

Whether someone remembered you or not on that day, at least you didn't get smacked with an animal hide.  At least I hope not!😎

Blessings.
