SOWING & REAPING/SEEDTIME & HARVEST

Gal. 6:7 Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap.

II Corinthians 9:6  Remember this:  Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously.

Every seed is programmed by God with the means to procreate or reproduce itself.  In the natural sense, this is true for every seed in every living thing from man to all things in the plant kingdom.

Ecclesiastes teaches us that to everything there is a season and that is certainly true.  Genesis 8:22 calls it “seedtime and harvest”. When it comes to mankind (especially within the Kingdom of God) what we reap depends on what we do, how we live, the choices we make, how we treat others, and the motivations of our hearts; in essence, the quality of “seeds” we plant.

Anyone, whether a farmer, a horticulturist, or one who is raising a vegetable garden in the backyard is intentional in selecting and planting healthy seeds because they want a “healthy”, bountiful harvest. This is also true of us in our spiritual life.  The motives behind what we do have a lot to do with what kind of “harvest” we get.  Do we sow only when we are sure that we will get something in return or public recognition (giving to be seen)?  When we serve, do we do that freely with joy or begrudgingly?  Are we stingy when opportunities are presented to give of ourselves to  be a help/blessing/encouragement to someone else? These are important questions on which to reflect.

If you need a heart check, here are some scriptures that may help you.  Ecclesiastes 11:1; Proverbs 19:17; Deuteronomy 15:10; Proverbs 11:26.  May you find that your heart and motives are in right standing with the Lord.  If not, may you be willing to allow the Holy Spirit to do the work in your heart.

There is an interesting quote from Cicely Tyson’s character in the Netflix movie, “Never Heard’.  “Everything has a seed, and if you plant trouble, trouble is what you goh get.”

In order to reap well, we must sow well.

Blessings.
