(Under Pressure) WHAT IS IN YOU WILL COME OUT!

Luke 6:45  (ESV)  The good person out of the good treasure of his heart produces good, and the evil person out of his evil treasure produces evil, for out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.

The Word lets us know that what comes out of our mouths actually comes from our hearts.  So, if we are reactionary and things fly out of our mouths without a filter, then we will find that our words/conversation reflect the kind of person we were in our “BC” (Before Christ) days.

If you spill grape juice on your counter, no doubt your immediate reaction is to grab a paper towel or sponge to quickly wipe it up.  When you attempt to rinse/wash the grape juice out of the sponge, what you will get is grape juice.  Not orange juice.  Not pop.  Why? When it is squeezed and under pressure, only what is  in it will come out. The same is true of us from a spiritual standpoint.

If what is in our hearts is not God honoring and not edifying, then a stressful, unpleasant circumstance will “squeeze” unwholesome words, attitudes,  and reactions out of us.  The fruit, self-control, is not evident. This applies not only when we are around others, but even when we are alone.  Anyone can “put up a front” in order to make a good impression on someone else, but only for short periods of time. We may feel that as long as no one is around to hear these “indiscretions” that there is “no harm, no foul”.  That would work only if  the God we serve was not omnipresent.  God is not mocked!  (Galatians 6:7)

Once we have given our lives to the Lord and become Kingdom Citizens we must  be diligent in guarding our hearts and monitoring what comes out of our mouths. Remember. What comes out of our mouths is a reflection of what is lurking in our hearts. Ephesians 4:29  Let no corrupt talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as first the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear.

What then should we do if the Holy Spirit reveals that our hearts are not “right”?  Praying the scriptures below would be a good place to begin.

Blessings.

Psalm 51:10

Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.

Psalm 19:14

Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, O Lord, my rock and my redeemer.
