THE POWER OF YOUR WORDS

 “The Power of Your Words”

Key Scripture: Psalm 141:3  (KJV)  “Set a watch, O Lord, before my mouth; keep the door of my lips.”

  • If you are a Believer (“called by his name”), then God’s Spirit lives in you.  Consider the following:  God is a Spirit, and He spoke everything into existence with His Words (except man).  One of His names that reflects His power is “Elohim”, The God of Creation/ (Creative Power).

  • It is important then to realize that if His Spirit lives in you, then your words have power as well, including the power to create and  influence.  You have His ability  to “call things into existence.”

  • Each one of us has grown up with negativity present in our everyday conversation.  We use words without giving a second thought as to what these words are creating or calling forth.  Sometimes out of anger, sadness, low esteem, frustration, we say things that are contrary to what we really want to see manifested in our lives or the lives of others.

  • Consider the following examples.  Have you ever said any of these?

  1. They make me SICK!  If you have ever been really sick, then you know that this is not something that you want released in your life.  Why would you want to give someone else that kind of power?

  1. You get on my last NERVE!  If you have ever had a pinched nerve or any other issue involving your nerves, then you would know that this is very undesirable and painful.

  1. Drop DEAD!  If His Spirit truly lives in you, would the Lord be pleased that you speak and release this desire into someone else’s life or someone speaking that into your life?

How do we counteract this seemingly innate tendency to speak such negativity so freely without regard for the circumstances we are creating with our words?  Here are a few suggestions.

  1. Ask the Holy Spirit to make you aware when words come out of your mouth that dishonor God and release negativity.  Repent of those words, then “re-language” (my term) those words to speak life.

  1. Our brains/minds are like computers.  When we type something on our computer that is an error, we hit DELETE.  Mentally/verbally (if spoken aloud),  “delete it”, repent of it, then “re-language” it.

  1. Finally, make Psalm 19:14a,b (NKJV) part of your daily prayer life, especially when you have spoken something contrary to whom God has called you to be.  “Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my HEART Be acceptable in Your sight, O Lord, my strength and my Redeemer.”  (Emphasis is mine.)

Jeremiah 17:9 (NKJV) lets us know that “the HEART is deceitful above all things, And desperately wicked.”  (Emphasis is mine.)

Proverbs 18:21a (KJV)  “Death and life are in the power of the tongue; and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.

May each of us examine ourselves daily.

Blessings!
